I have always loved the EP, a small collection of well-formed tracks, maybe iterations of a single idea, or the summary of many. It is an underused form, I feel, especially in an age when the increased length of the CD yielded 60 or 70+ minute albums. Perhaps this is less meaningful now with digital releases, but I am still drawn to the idea of a small tasty audio treat. As soon as I heard the demo of these tracks, I wanted to include Brian's work in the Foundry EP Series. - M. Bentley
From the press release:
Egocentric's The Sky Within the Ground is the third installment of The Foundry EP Series and the 2004 release from Bay-Area-born, Brooklyn-based artist Brian Naas working under the name Egocentric. Brian weaves eccentric rhythms, melodic fragments and textural work into five engrossing tracks, familiar and new all at once. Brian has continued to work making music, and samples of his new material can be found via his website.
